Nakopo ni Senador Francis \u201cKiko\u201d Pangilinan ang Senate Committee on Agriculture matapos itong sumanib sa Majority Bloc na naghalal kay Senate President Francis \u201cChiz\u201d Escudero nitong Lunes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sa kanyang explanation of vote, sinabi ni Pangilinan na sumanib siya sa majority upang tugunan ang lumalalang krisis sa pagkain at makopo ang chairmanship ng Committee on Agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aniya sa pagboto kay Escudero na patuloy na tumataas ang halaga ng pagkain, lomolobo ang bilang ng nagugutom at lumalala ang malnutrisyon sa kabataan na kailangan ng kagyan, maahyos na pagkilos sa pagitan ng Sangay ng Ehekutibo at Lehislatibo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cOur nation is facing a food crisis and high prices of food have led to unprecedented hunger incidence as well as unprecedented stunting among our children,\u201d aniya sa pagbubukas ng 20th Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kahit hindi kaalyado ng administrasyon, sinabi ni Pangilinan na dulot ng kanyang 15 taong karanasan sa agrikultura at sektor ng pagkain \u2013 kapwa bilang senador at kalihim ng food security \u2013 kaya siya nakumbinsi na kailangan ang suporta ng  Kongreso at Palasyo para sa epektibong solusyon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOnly if the executive and the legislative branches work together can we effectively bring down food prices and address hunger and food inflation,\u201d aniya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Binanggit niya noong nagsilbi siya bilang food security czar mula 2014 hanggang 2015 sa ilalim ng Aquino administration, nagtagumpay ang pamahalaan na maibaba ang presyo ng bigas hanggang P3 kada kilo at bawawan ang rice inflation mula 15 hanggang 0.8 porsiyento sa loob ng isang taon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Itinuturing nya itong tagumpay sa agresibong reporma  anti-smuggling operations, at executive-legislative coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNagawa na natin noon at kung magbigay ng buong suporta ang ating Pangulo\u2014magagawa natin ulit ngayon,\u201d aniya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nilinaw din niya na hindi ibig sabhin na sumanib siya sa majority ay inaabandona nito ang pagiging independent senator dahil policy outcomes, hindi political labels ang giya sa pagkilos sa lehislatibo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
