MANILA, Philippines\u2014The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a Chinese national tagged by his country as a fugitive from justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BI Tourist Visa Section Chief Raymond Remigio shared that the Chinese man, identified as Luo Xinya, 27-years-old, was intercepted last June 26 upon his attempt to extend his visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe probably thought he could continue hiding in the country despite his arrest warrant in China,\u201d said Remigio. \u201cWhat he doesn\u2019t know is that our system is connected to the BI\u2019s centralized database of derogatory records, allowing us to immediately detect those with deportation orders,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Luo presented himself for assessment at the BI\u2019s head office in Intramuros, Manila when Special Investigator Teresa Javier inputted his passport details, which yielded positive results. Luo is the subject of a summary deportation order issued by the BI in 2023 after Chinese authorities informed the agency that he has a standing detention warrant issued by the Chongqing Hechuan District Public Security Bureau of the People\u2019s Republic of China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As such, Luo was classified as an undesirable alien and was ordered deported by the BI\u2019s board of commissioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was later arrested by operatives of the BI\u2019s fugitive search unit, and was transferred to the BI\u2019s warden facility in Bicutan, Taguig pending the implementation of his deportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco commended the personnel involved, and highlighted the effectiveness of the system in maintaining public safety. “Our centralized immigration system is crucial in identifying and apprehending individuals with derogatory records.
