IMPEACHMENT TRIAL VS SARA TULOY, ‘forthwith’ – SP Cayetano

TINIYAK ni Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano nitong Martes na agad aaksyunan ng Senado ang Articles of Impeachment at iginiit na susundin ng institusyon ang tungkulin nito sa ilalim ng Konstitusyon.

“There won’t be delays,” sabi ni Cayetano sa isang panayam sa mga reporter.

“We will do what has to be done. Judge us by our actions,” dagdag niya.

Nang tanungin kung agad bang magco-convene ang Senado kapag natanggap nito ang Articles of Impeachment, mabilis at diretsong sagot ni Cayetano: “Forthwith.”

Ayon sa kanya, tuloy-tuloy ang konsultasyon ng liderato ng Senado sa mga kasapi nito at maging sa mga dating opisyal.

Dagdag pa ng Senate President, layunin nila na matiyak na malinaw at maayos ang susunod na hakbang sa proseso ng impeachment.

“I also consulted former Senate President Tito Sotto. The guidance was to follow the process and refer the matter appropriately through the Committee on Rules. We will follow the law and the rules of the Senate,” sabi niya.

Binigyang diin ni Cayetano na ang impeachment ay isang mekanismo ng pananagutan na kailangang pagtuunan ng seryosong atensyon, ngunit hindi rin dapat mapabayaan ang iba pang usaping pambansa, lalo na ang mga problema sa ekonomiya.

“We cannot focus only on impeachment because there are many pressing economic challenges facing the country,” wika ni Cayetano.

“But this is an important accountability process, and we will give it the full attention it deserves,” dagdag niya.
